What’s your favorite part of working at the Foundation?

While there are so many things to choose from, I would say the bond that everyone has here. When we say we are a family, we truly mean it. Working in the kitchen here also allows me to get creative, try new things and do what I love, while meeting some amazing people. 


Do you have a favorite story you’d like to share from your time here?

There are multiple different moments that pop into my head, but I would say one of my favorite memories was from this past summer. It was a family programming week, and one of the families had a younger child with a birthday while staying here. We found out his favorite flavor of cake and I surprised him (and his family) with a birthday cake at lunch, and we got everyone to sing “Happy Birthday.” Later that night his mom came up to me with the absolute most gratitude, telling me how with them being here they didn’t have much planned. Just hearing how grateful they were and how happy it made him and his family made my week – it was a very sweet moment. 


What is your favorite feature of the Foundation or Retreat?

One of my favorite features of the Retreat is the programs we have set in place to help post-9/11 recalibrated veterans. You truly can see a change from when they get here to the time they leave. 


What is a fun fact about yourself that you’d like to share?

A fun fact about me is that I attended a technical center my junior and senior years of highschool, and took culinary classes. During my time there, I competed on a cooking team for ProStart in Washington, D.C. My junior year, my team ranked 5th in the nation (there were about 48 other teams we competed against). I made a dish I wasn’t wasn’t actually supposed to be cooking for the competition – and it was only my 3rd time cooking. The dish was a pan-seared duck breast with red curry coconut sauce, jade pearl rice, soy glazed egg yolk and sauteed baby bok choy with shiitake mushrooms. 

What town do you live in?

I live in Readfield and Augusta

What do you do at the Foundation?

I am the Assistant Sous Chef here at the Retreat 

How long have you worked at the Foundation?

I have worked at the foundation since May 2023!
