Warrior PATHH Class 31 – “I Miss Myself”

Warrior PATHH Class 31 at the Travis Mills Foundation was joined by Pryor Baird, a volunteer from Songwriting for Soldiers, an organization thats mission is to transform lives by using collaborative songwriting to expand creativity, connections, and strengths.

The class included three veterans, two Dual Service and 2 First Responders.  On Day 5 of the program – the songwriting portion – is when PATHH Guides and Program Director James Prindle start to see a shift in students. The students tell their story, the songwriter records it and together they create something new. From Warrior PATHH Class 31, here is “I Miss Myself””:

VERSE

ALL OUR ROADS ARE DIFFERENT

BUT THE JOURNEYS STILL THE SAME

TO BE A BETTER PARENT

GOTTA FREE ME FROM THIS PAIN

I WANNA SEE THE SMILE

AND THE SPARKLE IN YOUR EYES

YEAH I KNOW IT’S BEEN A WHILE

AND CAME SO CLOSE TO GOODBYE

CHORUS

I MISS BACK THEN

I MISS MY LIFE

I MISS MY KIDS AND I MISS MY WIFE

I MISS THE FUN THAT WE USE TO HAVE

I MISS THE LOVE THAT WE ONCE HAD

I MISS THE HOME THAT WE BOTH BUILT

BUT THE THING THAT I MISS MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE

I MISS MYSELF

VERSE

USE TO BE SO ANGRY

I GET LOST INSIDE MY HEAD

I HATED TO GO TO SLEEP

AND FACE DEMONS IN MY BED

BUT NOW I’VE FOUND SOME PEACE

IM STRONGER THAN BEFORE

THE WORK ON ME WILL NEVER CEASE

IF JUST TO FEEL IT JUST ONCE MORE

BRIDGE

LET ME TELL WHAT LEARNED WHEN IN ROME

THAT THE WARRIORS PATH WILL ALWAYS LEAD YOU HOME
